What is AccountEdge Pro (macOS 10.15 and higher)?

AccountEdge Pro (for macOS 10.15 and higher) is a specially developed version of AccountEdge* that allows you to use AccountEdge on macOS Catalina and higher without setting up a virtual machine.

Can I use this new product if I'm not on the 2020 version of AccountEdge? Do I need to purchase an upgrade to AccountEdge 2020 first?

Included in your subscription is a free upgrade to the AccountEdge 2020 version, no matter what version you are coming from.  If you're coming from an AccountEdge 2019 or older, or AccountEdge Basic, a company file upgrade is required.

Is this desktop or cloud software?

Desktop. You can still use AccountEdge Connect with this version of AccountEdge, should you require cloud collaboration tools, but an AccountEdge (macOS 10.15 and higher) subscription is for desktop software.

Will my subscription include future updates and upgrades?

Yes, as long as your subscription is current. You'll be notified that a new version is available to download. Whether it's an update or upgrade, you'll have full, complimentary access to those new features.

If I decide to cancel my subscription, can I take my company file with me?

Of course, you're in full control of your company file. As long as you have the latest version of legacy AccountEdge Pro, you can open your company file without requiring a subscription. If you're not on the latest version, you can purchase an upgrade to the current version.

If I decide to cancel my subscription, can I still use my previous version of AccountEdge?

Yes, your previous, non-subscription, legacy version will still be available to you if decide to cancel your subscription for AccountEdge Pro (for macOS 10.15 and higher).

  • If your non-subscription version of AccountEdge is not the most current release you may need to purchase an upgrade to access your company file or you may have to re-enter transaction data.
  • If you are running on macOS Catalina (10.15) or later, your previous non-subscription version of AccountEdge will not work.

What if I have AccountEdge Network Edition, can I use this new product?

AccountEdge Pro (for macOS 10.15 and higher) is currently only single user. We will share more details on our efforts on a multi-user version, as they become available. However, you can still enroll in AccountEdge Pro (for macOS 10.15 and higher) and use the software on one computer at a time.

Is this a native, Mac version of AccountEdge?

Not exactly. This version is a modified version of our AccountEdge for Windows application that easily runs on macOS Catalina without the need for a Windows operating system or Virtual Machine (e.g. Parallels) product.

Will I be able to run in Dark Mode?

If you are running your Mac in Dark Mode, AccountEdge will work fine, but it won't be Dark.

What if I'm already on an annual Payroll Tax Plan?

If you want to switch to AccountEdge Pro (for macOS 10.15 and higher), you can apply your remaining Payroll Tax subscription towards your AccountEdge Pro (for macOS 10.15 and higher) subscription.

How do I get updates for payroll?

If you are subscribed to Payroll you will get notified when tax table updates are available.  Keep in mind, you can only run payroll if you have added Payroll to your subscription.   

Will my Payroll Forms work?

Yes, if subscribed, you can continue to use your Payroll Forms.

Can I use my local Mac printers?

Yes, you will be able to use any printer that is connected to your Mac.

Can I email invoices, statements, etc. from AccountEdge using Mac Mail or Outlook?

Yes, the process of sending emails from AccountEdge Pro (for macOS 10.15 and higher) remains unchanged.

Can I send reports to Excel? Can I use OfficeLink?

Will the other add-on services and tools work?

Yes, all our add-on features and add-on services have been tested and are working.  This includes UPS Shipping, Credit Card Processing, Electronic Payments, Bank Feeds,  Shopify integration, and AccountEdge Connect with the Customer Portal.

Company Files

Can I use my existing AccountEdge company file?

Yes. You can use your company file the same way you're used to, without any conversion. If you're using a version of AccountEdge older than AccountEdge Pro 2020, a company file upgrade will be required. Need a refresher on how to upgrade your company file?

Where is my company file stored on my hard drive?

We have not changed how AccountEdge handles or stores company files. Your company can be stored anywhere that AccountEdge has access to. We do recommend storing your file in your Documents folder, locally.

Can I store my company file on a shared server?

Yes, but keep in mind AccountEdge Pro (for macOS 10.15 and higher) is single user product. While your file can be stored on a shared server, only one computer at a time can access the company file.

Other Options

Will this be my only option going forward or will you continue to update the existing, legacy AccountEdge Pro product?

If you want to run macOS Catalina (10.15) or higher, this will be your only option, unless you choose to use virtualization software or our hosted solution.  As we outlined when we initially announced our Catalina plans in January 2020, we will continue to provide updates to our legacy AccountEdge Pro for Mac products, for those wanting to run macOS El Capitan (10.11) to macOS Mojave (10.14), for the foreseeable future.

If I want to upgrade my operating to macOS Catalina (10.15) or higher, do I have any other options to continue using AccountEdge?

Why this approach? Why didn’t you just build a native, Mac version of AccountEdge for macOS Catalina?

Apple's macOS Catalina deprecated some essential frameworks that AccountEdge is built on top of. In the end, AccountEdge’s 30-year-old codebase proved too outdated to establish compatibility with Apple’s newest operating system. In spite of a multi-year project that involved a team of developers and analysts, it’s a project we were not able to complete. All that said, we’re pleased to offer a fully functional version of AccountEdge for those of you who need to upgrade to Catalina.
