Quebec QST Tax Changes 2013

Significant changes to the QST system came into effect on January 1, 2013. These new measures are further to a tax coordination agreement entered into by the governments of Canada and Québec on March 28, 2012. The QST is now calculated on the selling price not including GST. However, to ensure the total taxes payable remain the same, the QST rate has been increased from 9.5% to 9.975%. AccountEdge Pro 2013 was updated to reflect this change.

In older versions, customers can emulate the change:

  1. Create a backup of the company file (File > Backup)
  2. Rename the old QST to OST
    1. Go to you top menu bar and select List > Tax Codes
    2. Open The QST Tax Code
    3. Rename the QST Tax Code to OST
    4. Click OK
  3. Create a new QST Tax code
    1. Click the New button
    2. Name the new Tax Code QST
    3. Indicate a Tax Type of Goods and Services
    4. Indicate a rate of 9.975%
    5. Set the appropriate linked accounts (typically the PST Collected and PST Paid)
    6. Set the vendor card for the tax authority
    7. Click OK
  4. Link the new QST Tax Code to the GQT Consolidated Tax Code
